In therapy, I strive to create space where clients may explore their inner landscapes and make sense of themselves in their relationships and larger social contexts. I believe that most people have parts of themselves that are affirmed and other parts that have gone underground — perhaps as a result of relational injury, lack of environmental mirroring, or trauma. I seek to develop a supportive relationship where clients can begin to see the unseen and speak the unspeakable and, with self compassion and courage, work to integrate those parts and reduce suffering and experience deeper connection and meaning. That describes, in part, the process of exploratory therapy but what is a session actually like? We talk. People share their stories— maybe the latest relationship entanglement, feeling burdened with perfectionism, dissecting a racial microaggression that happened in class, or a painful memory from elementary school. I’m curious about nuance and felt experience and I reflect and ask questions to help deepen understanding. I work through psychodynamic, intersectional, and multicultural lenses. I have worked extensively with undergraduate and graduate students in both domestic and international settings. And, I have experience working with a range of presenting concerns including anxiety, stress, complex identity, immigration, and loss. I’ve been described as kind, patient, inquisitive, and discerning. Prior to moving to Princeton in 2015, I lived in China for five years during which I worked as a therapist at Community Center Shanghai and NYU Shanghai. I am originally from Taiwan and immigrated to the US as a child. My biracial and bicultural heritage along with my immigrant and expatriate experiences have created a particular interest in working with international students, immigrants, people who identify as mixed race, and students either preparing for or returning from studying abroad. My private practice is conveniently located walking distance from Princeton University campus on 344 Nassau Street. I work extensively with graduate and undergraduate students and accept PU student health insurance (students are responsible for their $10 copay).

Space to heal, grow and thrive while you transition to independence. You don't have to navigate transitions to adulthood alone! This time period is filled with change- romantic relationships, professional/academic, familial, social circle, moving locations, etc. Figure out meaning and purpose in your life and how to achieve alignment in your goals and life decisions. I believe true healing comes from addressing the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

College and graduate school can stretch you academically, mentally, and emotionally. When stress, burnout, or self-doubt start to pile up, that stretch can feel more like a breaking point. I work with students to navigate anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, trauma, life transitions, and challenges that can come with disability. I also support people adjusting to new environments, including the shift from rural backgrounds into more urban, academic settings. Together, we’ll look at where you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed and build practical skills to help you clear those hurdles and reconnect with what matters to you. My approach draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). In practice, this means we’ll use a blend of tools to help you understand your thoughts and reactions, make sense of your experiences, and respond in ways that feel more manageable and effective. I will tailor our work to your personal goals, because your idea of accomplishment is what matters to me. If you’re interested, we can also bring in elements of Geek Therapy® (using movies, games, or other examples of popular culture) to make therapy feel more relatable and engaging. If you’ve been dealing with mental fatigue, cognitive overload, or a life-altering diagnosis, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. We can work together to help you feel more balanced, confident, and prepared for your next chapter, whether that’s graduation or the following academic term. Reaching out can be the most difficult step in this process. Let’s start a conversation and design a treatment plan just for you.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my page. I commend you for taking the first step in exploring a therapist in the Pittsburgh area. My approach to counseling is grounded in empathy, compassion, and trust. I want our time together to be a collaborative process built on respect, understanding, non-judgment, and genuineness. There are points in everyone’s lives that may become unmanageable due to transitions, conflicts or a realization that may require the assistance of a therapist to help the client navigate forward in their journey. Counseling can be a valuable resource with lifelong tools to resolve past and present issues in people’s lives. I extend this invitation to you. My goal is to create a space for safety and empowerment. I am passionate about providing a collaborative therapeutic journey together. You are the expert of your life and your experiences, and it would be a privilege to go on this journey of growth and exploration with you. I believe learning and growing are constants in life. We can learn and grow from not only obstacles and challenges in life, but also successes and achievements, and therapy is a place to explore and process these parts of us. I value awareness and self-compassion, and I am drawn to find the deeper meaning of our behaviors and actions. My goal is to support you in living your life from a place of authenticity and self-understanding. I have a holistic perspective and I believe in the interdependence of the body, mind, and spirit. A person-centered and psychodynamic approach is what I bring to my work with individuals. My style pulls from different theories and practices of counseling. I want to meet you where you are, and I realize that one type of counseling does not fit everyone. You are unique and we will work together to find what works best for you!

As a therapist, I will always meet my clients where they are at the moment. My approach to therapy is holistic. I believe that therapy is client-led and my job is to walk with you side-by-side in your journey toward healing and growth. During sessions, I will lead with sensitivity, curiosity, and support. Our initial process will involve getting to know each other and developing a strong foundation of trust and safety. My ideal client is someone who is open to creating a partnership and ready to take on their counseling journey. This individual is ready to dive into some deep work and willing to be honest and is open to trusting a direct therapist to help them navigate life. This individual might not be aware of their issues at this time, but they are open to exploring them and creating goals to become a healthier version of themselves.

I specialize in treatment for anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, and coping with life stressors. I am a cognitive-behavioral therapist and my goal is to help clients develop strategies to make meaningful change in their lives. I love being a counselor and deeply enjoy the collaborative process of psychotherapy. I bring personal warmth, respectful curiosity, and genuine care for you as a person into our work together. My enthusiasm is blended with a naturally gentle demeanor, respect for you and your experiences, and commitment to principles of social justice. Whether you’re reaching out for personal enrichment, general emotional support, or specific mental health concerns, I can be a helpful collaborator for a variety of purposes. I provide individual therapy that is grounded in social consciousness and focused on your needs. It is a common and welcome scenario to be uncertain about our direction at the outset. We’ll figure it out together by understanding your interests and concerns, as well as the interpersonal, cultural, and sociopolitical dynamics interacting with them. The focus of our work can encompass anxiety, depression, LGBTGEQIAP+ affirming therapy, transitions and life changes, self-concept/ compassion, collaborative assessment and diagnosis, grief and bereavement, interpersonal skills, stressor-related issues, and other concerns. While I’m eager to work with adults of any age, I’m especially experienced with helping young adults navigate heavy existential questions, identity development, political distress, and career and academic exploration. Prior to counseling, I was a student affairs professional at several different universities, and consider that background important to many aspects of my identity as a counselor. The purpose of our work will unfold through a meaningful therapeutic relationship, prioritizing your self-expertise and personal strengths in conjunction with my theoretical approach. Although each person’s therapeutic process is unique, our work can involve developing insight from emotional experience, re-contextualizing suffering through political and socio-economic critique, interpreting thematic patterns for new ways of relating to self and others, constructing meaning to restore or enhance agency, and building relational empowerment for social change. I grew up in Pennsylvania and recently returned after three years in Houston, TX and another ten years living in three other states. In addition to counseling, I enjoy running, learning, travelling, coffee, reading, movies, and ice cream. Most especially, I cherish quality time with my spouse, family, and multiple pets.
