Direct, empathic, collaborative, trauma-informed. The purpose of therapy, from my perspective, is working to gain understanding about yourself and the underlying rationale for what makes you you so that you can take steps to be the best version of yourself. I tailor my approach to each individual's unique needs and work with them to actively restructure the patterns of thought and behavior that are keeping them stuck and unhappy, allowing them to move through life with a greater sense of freedom, clarity, confidence and purpose. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals to live fuller, more satisfying lives.
~Helping college and graduate students move beyond anxiety, overwhelm, and self-doubt into clarity, resilience, and deeper self-understanding~ College can look exciting from the outside — but many students find themselves quietly struggling with anxiety, overwhelm, self-doubt, or a sense that something just isn’t quite right. You might be: Feeling anxious, burned out, or constantly “on edge” Overthinking everything — relationships, decisions, your future Navigating identity, independence, or family pressure Struggling socially or feeling alone even when surrounded by people Dealing with health challenges, stress-related symptoms, or emotional exhaustion Wanting to understand yourself more deeply — not just “cope,” but actually change I work especially well with thoughtful, self-aware college and graduate students who are ready to go beyond surface-level coping and really understand what’s driving their patterns. My approach is integrative and mind-body focused, drawing from: EMDR (for processing past experiences that still impact you) DBT (for emotional regulation and practical tools) Nervous system / mind-body work (understanding anxiety, stress, and physical symptoms) Insight-oriented therapy (helping you make sense of yourself on a deeper level) I aim to create a space that is both warm and real — where you feel understood, but also gently challenged to grow. This work isn’t just about getting through college — it’s about helping you build a foundation for a more grounded, confident, and authentic life.

I have experience in working with depression, anxiety, life transitions, and school stress. I spent more than two years working at Cornell's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), which provided me with deep knowledge of the ins and outs of their mental health system, along with the pressures that one can face at college in regard to competition, academic stress, and building social connection. Being from upstate NY, I also understand some of the isolative parts of the experience, and adjustment to the uniqueness of the region. I am grateful to have a chance to share this experience and apply it to the therapy space. I gather inspiration from a variety of backgrounds and techniques, and use an eclectic style in therapy. It is extremely important that there is a safe space to explore thoughts and feelings. I have found that individuals have a great deal of success when we work on the relationship between their thoughts and emotions. I encourage you to reach out if you want to talk more about the specifics of what therapy could look like, and to have a conversation about how to improve your life and reach your goals.
Therapy is a journey where you learn more about yourself, your internal experience, and your loved ones in order to change your life based on your own goals and values. I can help you and/or other members of your family gain flexibility in your thoughts and actions through experiential skill development. My goal is to create a warm and safe environment where emotions, thoughts, memories, and other internal experiences can be explored with compassion and understanding. I have experience in treating trauma, anxiety, OCD, insomnia, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and interpersonal concerns using a variety of evidence based treatments. I have helped children, adolescents, families, parents, and couples approach their concerns from a family systems perspective.

While our practice does not offer traditional therapy, we specialize in comprehensive diagnostic assessments for adults who are either seeking a clearer understanding of their mental health or who have found traditional therapy ineffective in meeting their needs. Our evaluation process is designed to get to the root of what’s truly going on—emotionally, cognitively, and behaviorally. Following assessment, you will receive a detailed clinical report that includes a formal diagnosis (if applicable), a personalized treatment plan, and targeted recommendations to guide therapy. This approach helps ensure that your time in treatment is focused, efficient, and grounded in evidence-based practices. How Our Services Differ Many adults enter therapy without a clear diagnosis or direction, often leading to months or even years of “talk therapy” without significant progress. Our approach removes the guesswork. Using a structured combination of clinical interviews, psychological and personality testing, and other relevant measures, we provide a complete picture of your functioning. Every recommendation we provide is backed by empirical data and tailored to your individual history, needs, and goals. You’ll walk away with: • A definitive understanding of what you're experiencing • A written treatment plan based on scientific evidence and best practices • A list of highly qualified therapists in your area with experience in your specific areas of need What to Expect • Two appointments: one clinical diagnostic interview and one testing session • Psychological and personality measures, with additional assessments as needed • A thorough written report outlining diagnostic findings and a therapy roadmap • A final feedback session to walk through your results and next steps If you're interested in proceeding, please reply to confirm and provide a copy of your photo ID and the front and back of your insurance card(s). If you have questions before moving forward, I’d be happy to speak with you directly. Warmly, Dr. Brotz
