We will form a relationship with these parts and create a safe place for all of you to be seen, heard, and understood. In this safe place, you will heal yourself. Developing my own internal resources has helped me to move through some very difficult times as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Using evidence based research, I provide care that values every part of you and respects where you came from. In those moments of pain and struggle and self-discovery, I will help you to choose yourself. I seek to create a safe and inclusive space for black-bodied individuals, first generation immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, survivors of trauma, sex workers, and clients who are struggling with relationship and intimacy issues. My approach to mental health care is rooted in anti-oppressive and decolonizing frameworks. The treatment modalities that I use have been found to be effective across many cultures, ages, genders, and experiences. I have over 15 years of experience working in the mental health field in various settings--including inpatient, outpatient, inner-city clinics, schools, and private practice. I specialize in the treatment of Anxiety Disorders and ADHD. My passion for the field stems from my personal experience with it--overcoming a debilitating anxiety/panic disorder and accompanying depression. It was the scariest, most difficult time of my life. However, I made a promise to myself that if one day I could overcome my debilitating anxiety, then I would help others to do the same. I approach every client uniquely and use an eclectic, person-centered, integrative, evidence-based model as well as the ACT model. We will set overall goals that will not only help you with what you are struggling with mentally but also aid you in reaching better health all-around. When ready, I will challenge you and help set weekly goals to work towards. Val Schonberg is a Registered, Licensed Dietitian with a master’s degree in nutrition science, specializing in sports nutrition, women’s health and eating disorders. She is Board Certified as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics and certified as a menopause practitioner by the North American Menopause Society. With an extensive background in the treatment of eating disorders, she is also focused on providing nutrition guidance while decreasing the risk for those susceptible to eating problems. Val is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietetics Association, and the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science. She is a member of the Minnesota Dance Medicine Foundation and a member of the US Olympic Sports Dietitian Registry. Val balances her time by living what she teaches – eating intuitively and staying active by enjoying cycling, hiking, running and weight lifting. Her greatest joy is her 4 kids, and enjoys cooking, family meals and quality time with friends.
